The Biden-Harris administration has enacted policies and signed laws that have benefited the daily lives of Philadelphians in our community. Detailed in Project 2025, Republican's plans to undo this project are on the record.

Cost of living

Donald Trump plans to impart high tariffs -- effectively a tax -- on imported goods in an appeal to nativism. This will raise the prices of groceries, cell phones, and other goods. Economists forecast this to cost middle-class families up to $4000 per year

Insulin costs

The Biden-Harris administration caps insulin prices at $35 per month for Medicare recipients; a savings of hundreds of dollars per month. (Sources: [1], [2], [3]) Harris plans to expand this price cap to all users as President.

Public transportation & housing

HUD supports the residents of Cambridge Plaza, Richard Allen Homes, and Spring Garden Apartments. The Biden-Harris administration appropriated record amounts of funding to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and to public transit agencies including SEPTA

Republican's Project 2025 plans would dismantle much of HUD's ability to provide stable housing by eliminating minority protections and allowing public housing to be sold to private developers.

As president, Kamala Harris will build more than 3 million homes in her first four years, and provide $25,000 in support to first-time home buyers. More homes means more opportunities and lower buying costs.

Marijuana reform & decriminalization

President Biden has pardoned tens of thousands of individuals with simple marijuana possession convictions, removing barriers to employment, housing, and education opportunities. The Health and Human Services Department is taking steps to reclassify marijuana from a Schedule I to a Schedule III substance.

Student debt relief

A total of $138 billion of debt for 3.9 million Americans has been forgiven by the Biden-Harris administration through February 2024, targeting individuals with low incomes, certain medical disabilities, public sector jobs, as well as for people who have been defrauded by for-profit universities.

Infrastructure in Philadelphia

The Biden-Harris administration has directed hundreds of millions of dollars to infrastructure projects in Philadelphia, improving our city and creating jobs

The law's Reconnecting Communities Program will fund a cap over I-676 between 10th and 13th Streets. This project represents just the first step toward rectifying the injustices caused by the construction of I-676 that displaced hundreds of residents and exposes today's Chinatown to traffic pollution.

Climate change & energy infrastructure

Climate change is poised to be the most significant yet indirect influencer on the long-term stability of communities in the U.S. and abroad. By end-of-century, climate change is projected to cause over a million excess deaths per year. Communities like Eastwick in Philadelphia already face dire flooding issues that are exacerbated by climate change.

President Biden's Inflation Reduction Act contains the most sweeping climate policy legislation in U.S. history. In the short and medium term, these policies will reduce America's dependency on and importation of foreign oil, reduce the financial viability of new oil-drilling projects, and lower the price of electricity and gas for consumers. (Sources: [1], [2], [3], [4], [5]

The Inflation Reduction Act has doubled the pace of decarbonization in 2023 compared to 2022.

President Biden's will not approve new liquefied natural gas plants (Sources: [1], [2]). This has stopped the planned construction of a LNG in our neighboring city, Chester PA, saving its residents from dire health consequences and maintaining waterfront access.

President Biden has directed $20 billion toward clean-energy upgrades and repairs, 70% of which will be directed toward low-income communities. This will save households and small business energy expenses and make them more resilient while avoiding 40 million tons of CO2 emissions through 2031. (Sources: [1], [2], [3])

Meanwhile, Republican policymakers have published their plans to undo climate policy during the first 180 days of the next GOP administration.

Health, pollution, & environmental justice

Under the Biden-Harris administration's leadership, the EPA has enacted dozens of policies that will save tens of thousands annually. Most of this benefit will impact marginalized communities near heavy industry, like Grays Ferry in Philadelphia before the refinery closed.

Biden's EPA has enacted the first-ever drinking water standard for "forever chemicals." For the first time since 2012, thresholds for asthma-causing air pollution have been tightened. For the first time in over 30 years, emission standards for certain chemical plants have been amended, which will reduce cancer risks by 96% in nearby communities.

If in power, Republicans will defund the EPA and rollback regulations, prioritizing corporate profits over healthy communities.
